SUNXIII, LLC c/o Distributed Sun LLC has filed application number 9898 with the Maryland Public Service Commission to construct a 5-megawatt solar facility in the Town of Trappe. The solar array will be constructed on a 42-acre property located at the intersection of Piney Hill Road and Ocean Gateway. The solar array will cover approximately 30 acres of this property. Maryland Public Utilities Article 7-207 allows solar energy generating systems to bypass any local zoning approvals and gives all approving authority to the Maryland Public Service Commission.
The Trappe Town Council and Trappe Planning Commission have reviewed this project and both boards have concerns on the impact that this solar facility will have on the Town of Trappe and Town residents. The Town Council have prepared the below formal statement in opposition to the solar facility.
The Maryland Public Service Commission allows for public input during this approval process and are actively taking public comments until October 22nd. The Town created this petition to help residents voice their opposition to this project and the Town will submit an opposition package to the Maryland Public Service Commission by the deadline. If you are opposed to a 30-acre solar array being constructed in the Town of Trappe along Ocean Gateway please sign the petition before October 21st. If you would like to write your own opposition letter in addition to signing this petition please feel free to email the letter to clerk@trappemd.net before October 21st and the Town will include your letter in our submittal package. If you would like to submit your own comment directly to the Maryland Public Service Commission please visit their website at psc.maryland.gov to do so.
